New Call Center for Waco,Texas

NA -  8/15/2009

The Waco Veterans Affair Hospital will be the site of a National Pharmacy Contact Center that will create 224 new full- and part-time jobs for Greater Waco with an average annual salary of $45,000. Hiring is expected to begin as early as next month with full employment by October 2010.

Bids for the renovation of Building 90 on the VA campus in Waco will be released in September at a price tag of $4.5 million. This project brings the total of new investment at the Waco campus to more than $62 million in recent years.

“The creation of jobs of this caliber is good news for our local job market,” said Sarah Roberts, senior vice president, economic development for the Chamber. “The health care sector is key in this area, and the addition of these quality jobs only strengthens our local workforce.”

The center is part of a Department of Veterans Affairs initiative to improve customer service to veterans, who will be able to seek information regarding their prescriptions through the new center.

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki and Congressman Chet Edwards made the announcement from the Waco VA Hospital.

“By centralizing its pharmacy expertise in Waco, the VA can provide better health care to veterans at a savings to taxpayers. That’s a win-win,” said Edwards. “This important announcement is an exclamation point for the future of the Waco VA Medical Center. It is a clear statement that the Department of Veterans Affairs sees the Waco VA as a vital resource for veterans throughout Texas and across the nation.”
