Northwest Airlines opens Sioux City Reservations Center

Northwest Airlines will open a new corporate reservations center in downtown Sioux City this fall. The center will handle inbound calls from NWA customers worldwide. This important and historic project will create a projected 330 new jobs with competitive wages and excellent benefits.
Craig Berenstein, Mayor of Sioux City stated “NWA has been an important part of our community for a long time and we are excited to now welcome this new reservations center to Sioux City.”
The reservations center will be located on the second floor of the City owned Museum Plaza (former Penney’s building), a quality three story brick building in the heart of downtown Sioux City. The center will occupy 32,000 square feet of the second floor, with potential for growth. Building improvements are estimated at $4.8 million and overall investment in the project also including equipment, training, startup costs, and parking revenue is estimated at nearly $10 million.
City Competed Successfully for Center
The City is providing a competitive business assistance package that includes extensive renovations to the building to accommodate the new center. NWA employees will be able to use the adjacent parking facility as well.
Sioux City has worked with a number of business development partners to offer several innovative funding opportunities for the project. Working with the state of Iowa Department of Economic Development and Western Iowa Tech Community College, an estimated $545,000 funds will be available for training of new employees. The new “Targeted Jobs Tax Credit” program will also provide a minimum of $200,000 to the project. Assistance was also received from Sioux City’s Downtown Partners group and Iowa Workforce Development.
