Comcast To Expand In Indiana

Comcast -  12/11/2006

INDIANAPOLIS and FISHERS, Ind. (December 11, 2006) – Comcast today announced it has outgrown its current location in Indianapolis and plans to expand the customer care and technical support portion of its Indiana operations in Fishers. The company will transfer 210 of its current employees to the new location and has committed to hiring an additional 225 new full-time employees at the new location by 2011.

“This commitment, on the heels of 1,000 new jobs from IBM and 1,200 from WellPoint, makes a record-breaking year of job creation even better. Comcast expansion decision shows again the strong confidence that so many companies have in Indiana’s economy,” said Governor Mitch Daniels.

The new 45,000-square-foot facility—located on 116th Street east of I-69 in the Exit 5 Office Park—will initially house 210 customer service employees. Comcast has committed to the creation of an additional 160 full-time permanent positions by 2008, 185 full-time permanent positions by 2009, and 225 full-time permanent positions by 2011. Comcasts current location near 65th Street and Binford Boulevard in Indianapolis will retain a large professional, management, administrative and engineering/technician presence at its existing operations center located in Indianapolis.

“Comcast is experiencing explosive growth in Indiana, with the launch of Comcast Digital Voice home phone service and the Triple Play,” said Comcast Regional Senior Vice President Rusty Robertson. “As that growth continues and even accelerates, there are exciting new opportunities for new and current Comcast employees. We will be adding hundreds of jobs and millions in payroll, and our current facility just is not big enough.”

The economic development incentives offered by the IEDC consist of up to $180,000 in training grants and up to $1.85 million in tax credits based on anticipated levels of employment and capital investment. Locally, the town of Fishers offered Comcast a ten-year real property tax abatement.

“Comcast is a first-class organization,” said Scott Faultless, Fishers Town Council president. “We certainly feel this is a great opportunity for Comcast and a great opportunity to create additional quality jobs in the Town of Fishers.”
