Ralph Lauren To Locate In High Point,North Carolina
| | Ralph Lauren Polo - 12/9/2006 | | | The Associated Press reported recently that the customer Web site for clothing maker Polo Ralph Lauren will be presented with $1.4 million in cash incentives for its planned call and distribution center in High Point, North Carolina, according to city officials.
The incentives approved Thursday for Ralph Lauren were in addition to a $1.5 million grant from the state and a $650,000 grant being considered by Guilford County, North Carolina commissioners. The incentives were the second-largest economic incentive package ever offered by the city.
Polo.com announced last month it would open a new facility in High Point, bringing in 250 jobs over the next four years with an average annual wage of $34,000. The facility will pack and ship Internet orders in the U.S. and handle customer service phone calls and e-mails, officials have said. Construction could begin in December of this year, and the first phase of the project should be complete next year.
The company already operates a distribution center with 920 employees in High Point and chose to expand its presence in the city because of the FedEx hub planned nearby, said Ralph Wear, senior director of operations with Polo.com.
High Point officials also plan to lend the company an electric generator valued at $725,000 to use as a backup energy source and waive about $100,000 in city fees.
The company is the eighth-largest employer and fourth-largest taxpayer in High Point.
